Sitting down to watch the qualifiers of the Barcelona Grand Prix always brings back bittersweet memories.
Back in 1994, a friend who was living and working in Madrid offered to host myself and another very good old friend for about 10 days, the main reason for the trip being another trip, all together, by road, up to Barcelona to watch the F1 Grand Prix.
Lots of planning had gone into it and lots of anticipation also as we all quite admired Senna.
Sadly our chance to watch the master of the track at work was not to be. The tragic and fatal crash on 1st May 1994 at the Imola circuit in Italy that took Senna’s life will always be etched into my memory. From trying to understand what caused the crash to, then, watching in shock and sad disbelief as the stewards and medical team extracted Senna from his stricken car, and trying to keep up with news snippets that were coming our way it has remained a sobering and very sad memory.
The Barcelona Grand Prix happened later that month – 27th to 29th May – and the memory of the crash still quite raw for all of us. It was, despite all the sadness of Senna’s crash, a very good race and a lovely Spanish trip.
So, getting back to the point of this post, I do my utmost to be able to sit and watch the GP when it is Barcelona’s turn.
While watching the preparations for the qualifiers today I noticed that the Williams team have the logo for Claude, Anthropic’s AI chat model, emblazoned on their kit.
So I asked Claude about, mentioning that I am a long time fan of the Williams Racing team.
Claude had to do a quick research but quickly came back to confirm that Anthropic have entered into a multi year contract with Atlassian Williams F1 Team as the official Thinking Partner and that under James Vowles care and guidance, Claude will help rebuild the mighty team.
After an amusing back and forth chit chat with Claude we came to an agreement, a pledge so to speak, signed and sealed with three virtual handshakes and witnessed by myself, Mike of Mosta, that by the end of their multi year deal with Williams Claude will have helped the team to at least the Constructors Championship and, if such does indeed transpire, that Anthropic will extend their contract.
So hear me now.. As I have spoken. 😁
