About a month ago I had to do a blood test, a yearly test that my GP requires to check several things. It started off due to my high level of cholesterol which, since first being diagnosed, has been brought under control thanks to a diet change and a daily supplement pill.
This time round, however, Doc found my Vitamin B12 levels very low, all other conditions are under control so all good there apart from the Vitamin B12 thing.
Doc decided that injections would be a better course of action as they work faster so he wrote out the prescription and explained what I needed to do. I was given a prescription for 6 injections, 1 a week, to be done by a nurse at the local polyclinic.
What the doctor failed to mention was how painful the injection is and that it has to be done in the bum!
I have just had my 4th injection and holy moly was it painful. I think this was the most painful so far. I had imagined that it would get less painful as we go through the course but, nope.. Not a chance.
Walking it off helps immeasurably!
4 weeks, 4 injections and 4 different nurses sadistically yanking down my pants and plunging the needle with mad abandon into my poor buttocks. I can just imagine the smile of evil glee on their face while they administer this painful injection. 😂
N.B. Please note that I have taken some liberty in describing my weekly visit to the polyclinic above.
In actual fact I have nothing but praise for the staff and Nurses who have helped me so far.
The nurses have been kind and very professional each time I have visited.
The injection is indeed painful but that is only because the Vitamin B12 injection is an acidic solution which causes a burning sensation. The high volume of solution, which is administered deep into the intramuscular tissue is really the main cause of the pain.
Well.. Two more to go!
